How to Remove Coffee Stains From an Office Chair
Coffee is of course a staple of most offices and quite rightly so! That means coffee spills are also inevitable. So, when the unfortunate does happen how do you remove coffee stains from an office chair?
In the case of leather chairs it should simply be a case of wiping it off and at worst sponging down with some water and soap.
However, in the case of fabric you have a little bit more of a challenge.
A busy office with fabric chairs will no doubt have much evidence of coffee spills, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Coffee can be dealt with easily as long as you don’t let it dry.
Dealing With a Coffee Spill
The first thing to do when you spill coffee on your office chair is act straight away. Don’t leave it because once it dries it is going to be a harder job.
Step one is to gently blot as much of the excess liquid as possible out of the office chair.
Use a clean cloth, preferably a microfibre cloth because you don’t want to damage the fabric. The worst thing you can do is start scrubbing away with a dirty, harsh cloth. It won’t do much to get the coffee out and you will start to damage the fibres of the fabric making the end result much less favourable.
Spend time on this, because the more you can get up at this stage the better.
Step two, gently apply clean cold water and then blot again. You should start to find the liquid coming out is less dark. Again keep going with the blotting and no scrubbing.
Step three, assess how much of the stain has been removed from your office chair. If it is still showing then repeat again with the clean water and blot again.
Step four, once you have reduced the stain as far as you think you can it’s time to gently dry. You could use a hair dryer on the cold setting or maybe a desk fan. Don’t use heat as this can set the stain.
Dealing With a Dried Coffee Stain on Your Office Chair
If your office chair has a dried coffee stain on it then it’s going to be harder to get out, but you should still be able to reduce the mark.
Step one, mix warm water with laundry powder and a little white vinegar. Use just a little bit of detergent and around one third vinegar to two thirds warm water.
Step two, use a cloth to apply a little of the mixture. Rub gently and then wait for a few minutes.
Step three, is to flush the water, vinegar and detergent solution out with cold water. Make sure it is flushed out fully.
Step four, blot with a microfibre cloth. Don’t scrub, but just gently blot your office chair until you have as much of the water out as possible.
Step five, use a hair dryer on cold setting or a desk fan to dry the fabric. Don’t use heat.
Conclusion
Coffee stains can be unsightly on office chairs, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Make sure you clean up new spills quickly and follow the instructions above to reduce or clear the old dried stains.
